How to expose the Hidden Job Market

If you have read my past articles, I speak of the hidden job market and how to activate it or use it in your job search. A very high percentage of unemployed candidates use the paper and the Internet to search for employment, and most of them have been unemployed for many, many months now.

This is because they are limiting themselves to using only those two resources. There is so much more of an opportunity just waiting for you and all that you have to do is tap into it.

I have mentioned that using a phone book is a great way to access the hidden job market. I am also going to mention a whole bran new way to access the hidden job market and we will do this by exposing this market to your local church members.

Say-what?

The hidden job market, simply put is being creative in your job search, its using non-traditional ways to search for employment. So again, pay attention because this is a very effective way to find a job and to find a job in days or weeks not months and months.

Ready?

First, you need to purchase a bulletin board.

Second, you will create a label for the poster board such as; Employment Board or Post your Job Openings Here! You get the drift. Be creative.

Third, take this poster board to your pastor and ask if he/she will allow you to post this board inside the church to help the unemployed find work. Church members that know of  job openings can place them on this board, and the unemployed can access this information simply by viewing the board.

Fourth, if he/she gives you the approval you will want to find a great place to put the board inside the church, maybe in a lounge or in the door way as you enter the church.

Fifth, to get the most out of this board, the church members will need to know of the board and its purpose. This can be done by asking the pastor to announce the board at the beginning of his sermon and once more at the end. Also ask that he mentions this board a few Sundays in a row or until people start using the board.

WAHLAH, you have just exposed the hidden job market. Good Luck. and God Bless.

Hidden Job Market, does it exist?

If 80% of the employers that are hiring do not advertise, then why use a newspaper?

Its obvious that you will find employment opportunities in your local newspaper.

Depending upon where you live and how the economy has affected your community your help wanted section may be very bleak.

Now, on to the Internet. If 80% of employers that are hiring don’t advertise, then you’re not going to find many of your local businesses, advertising job opportunities on the Internet either.

Most local newspapers will place the job openings that they have listed in their paper on Careerbuilder or Monster.

This means that when you find job openings on-line you will more than likely find that same opening listed in the archives of your  local newspaper.

So what you have found on-line you have already read in your local paper.

Unless of course you solely depend upon the Internet to find employment.

Which I don’t recommend.

What I do recommend is that you research – what is the hidden job market and how to use it.

If you want a job search that offers you more choices. If you want to have a bucket load of employment opportunities to choose from.

Find and utilize the Hidden Job Market. It does exist.

God Bless and Good Luck.

An interview requirement that may cost you you’re job.

Finally, you have a job interview scheduled. Do you

have everything? How about a resume? Not taking

a resume to the job interview can cost you the job.

Many people are so intimidated by the process of

creating a resume that they skip it all together.

Huge Mistake! Employers expect a resume and your

ability not to produce one, says something about

your capabilities. Not producing a resume tells the

employer that you’re aren’t willing to learn something

new, such as creating a resume. It also shows lack

of initiative and it may show the lack of interest in

the position that you’re applying for. I mean after all

if you truly wanted the job you would have produced

a resume. Now a days its expected and usually

required, so simply do it, it’s not hard. There are

templates all over the internet for resume’s you can

find a few of them at Microsoft’s template page. If you

were to go to microsoft.com and tab on templates

there are resume fill in the blank templates. My advice

would be to create one and present it the day of the

interview. Now after you have created a resume, how

many should you take to the interview? Have you ever

attended an interview just to be asked questions, such

as, how long were you employed with ___________?

All of a sudden you’re face begins to feel hot, as you

realize that you have no idea. After all you created the

resume months ago, and you’re not even sure of your

dates of employment. This is a bad sign, it may indicate

that you’re falsifying your resume. The last thing

that an employer wants to do is hire an employer

that they can’t trust. To avoid this you will go prepared.

To be prepared you would simply take 2 resume’s, 1 for

you’re interviewer and 1 for yourself. When you’re ready

to sit down for the interview, you will place you’re resume

in your lap. When the interviewer begins to ask questions

about your employment history, simply glance at the

dates and ask the questions quickly and correctly.

Employers know that some of you have been searching

for a job for months and it may have been that long since

you’ve created the resume. Glancing at your resume

is acceptable, it shows preparation and accuracy, these

are qualities that an employer look for. Of course it

also helps to study you’re resume before attending the

interview. Either way, if you would like to impress the

employer and increase you’re chances of getting hired,

take my advice. Good Luck.

Advertise your way to employment.

Hello gang, I’d like to talk about a strategy that not

to many think of. I know this just by searching my

local newspapers. First I would like to bring to your

attention that if you’re searching for a job today, you

are competing with hundreds of others that want the

same job your applying for. Being that this is true

in order to get the job you must stand out from the

crowd, you must be in the front of the eyes of the

hiring employers. In order to accomplish this, you

must use strategies that others are not even thinking

about and if they were there not bold enough to use.

The tip in this article unforunately does require

extra cash, but the reward that comes from the results

can bring in even more money and most importantly,

job security. This is the tip, open up your phone book

and find the number to your local paper, write the

number down but don’t call it just yet.

You’re next step would be to grab a pen and paper

and write an ad that markets yourself, an ad that

advertises that your looking for a job. For example:

Manager Searching for work 555-1212 or

Employers, STNA with 10 years experience searching

for employment. Use your imagination, but once you

have created an ad for yourself, then your going to call

the newspaper and ask for a quote on an ad that you

would like to run in the sunday paper. They will ask you

to read the ad to them and then they will give you a

quote. Be sure to ask, what is the busiest day for

their paper. They may tell you that wednesday

is also a great day to run your ad, and running your

ad during the week may even be cheaper than running

it on sundays. While you have the newspaper on the

phone ask if its cheaper if you were to run this ad 4

times a month. This method works successfully

especially, if you were to run your ad once

a week. I will be honest, If you can’t run the ad 4 times

a month  or once a week, I might wait until you can.

Employers will need to see you’re ad a couple of times

before they will respond to it. Seeing your ad

more than once will tell the employers that your

persistant and serious about your job search.

After you have collected this information from your

local paper, you can either pay for the ad over

the phone or simply tell the newspaper that you

were just calling for a quote and that you will call back

when you can pay for the ad. In most cases the paper

will hold the quote for you, this will make it easier

when you call back to pay for the ad. My advice would

be that if you cannot pay for the ad, that you would ask

someone for a small loan. This loan would be to pay for

the ad and can be re-paid when you have found

employment. Most people would be happy to

loan you the money if it meant helping you find a job,

so don’t be afraid to ask.

This is a great way to search for employment, simply

because employers search the newspaper just as often

as employees. I hope that you will give this a try and

when you have, please post your results so that

others are encouraged to use this method as well.

Thank you and Good Luck.

You must Mourn a job loss.

Help Wanted Classifieds is a blog that will give great examples on how to find a job.

I know many of you already know how to find a job write?

This blog is slightly different than most because the techniques are slightly different.

For example, here is the first tip that I will offer for you and your job search.

First, get real mad about the fact that you have lost your job. Mourn. You must first get your emotions in order so that you can concentrate on getting back to work. You will need a clear head in order to find a job quick.

So mourn, to mourn could mean throwing a party, it could mean punching and kicking a bag for a few hours, it could mean hiding in the bedroom for a day or two. What ever it is, do it, then begin your search.

The next tip in this article is going to be that you must realize that loosing your job, created another job for you. What Job? You have been promoted to a Job Search Executive, and you will need an office in order to get started. Lets face it folks searching for a job is a job in itself. So you must set up an office, you will need a phone, a writing pad or paper, you will also need something to write with. You have noticed that I did not say a computer right? Because you don’t need one, but if you had one this is where you would set up your office. You must also set up a work schedule that is executed 8 hours a day 5 days a week. If you worked second shift and your family has adjusted well to this shift then adjust your new office job around those hours if its possible. Quite frankly it would be easier to find a job very quickly if you began your search at 8 in the morning and ended your search at 5 pm. This would give you time to visit the employers that you would like to apply to in person plus it would give you time to apply online. I would get all of my running done in the morning so that I could be home cooking dinner for the family while I was filling out on line applications. But each situation is going to be different. So adjust your new found job and hours around a schedule that is going to work for you and your family. But know this if you fail to believe that you must treat your unemployment as if you have been promoted as a job executive in your own job search,It may be a while before you find employment. Why, because there are others out their that are competing for the same positions that you are. You must stand out amongst the competition and this is done by responding to ads promptly and by checking up on your applications to request interviews before anyone else. And the office will help you keep track of where you have applied and who have you contacted during this seach. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Help Wanted Classifieds

Help wanted classifieds is a blog that wants to promote employment thru job techniques that are not really used anymore. The key to finding employment is to not only use the internet or newspaper, but to use every method possible, all at once. For another words if you use the newspaper and the internet to find a job, then you don’t just use one or the other but you use both. I know your thinking I do right? This is what your schedule should look like then, 8 am up and dressed, if you don’t have a computer you are leaving to go to the local library so that you can view the free newspaper. If there are jobs in the paper that you qualify for, you will leave the library to fill out these applications. When you have finished you will return to the library to fill out the applications that have requested that you do this online. When you have finished this you will then return home to make phone calls. You will first call the employers that you have filed an online application with. You will let them know what your name is and what time you have filled out the application, this allows the manager to pull your application for a review. Its in your best interest that you do not hang up the phone until you have the hiring employers name and have asked for an interview. If you cannot get an interview, call back in 48 hours to ask for the hiring manager and to ask for an interview once again. If you fill out an online application and you do not call the employer to let them know that you have filled out an application, they may never know that you even exist. You will also use this same method for employers that you have applied to in person, you will call them and let them know you have placed an application with them and that you would like to request an interview. This is done at the end of every single day. If one day go’s left without a job search it may take you months before you find a job. So don’t gamble your future away. If you’re going to find a job you must use more than one job search and you must respond to every search immediately and you must work on this 5 days a week. Remember you have other employees competing for that same job that you want, so you must get to the finish line before them. So everyday, Search for a job and if you use 3 jobs searches or just one, use them everyday, and you will find a job much faster then other people that do just the opposite. Good Luck.
